Chakra Foods – Eating Our Way to Physical And Spiritual Wellbeing

Our seven chakras are the powerful focal points of our body’s constant circulation of energy, and this energy not only is directed outwards towards the world we inhabit and the people we interact with, but is also drawn in from our surroundings and immediate environment. These energies drive us towards almost all that we do, and are required in order to live healthy, happy lives in which our dreams can be fulfilled, our voices can be heard and our road towards enlightenment can be walked without difficulty or strife. It comes as no surprise, therefore, to learn that those things which we choose to put into our bodies can make a significant difference in regards to how well our chakras operate, and how freely and healthily the energies circulate around our material form.

A healthy chakra is an open chakra – a wheel or vortex of energy which rotates and pulses, accepting positive energies from outside, and projecting them both within and without. Food and drink are our sources of physical energy; we all know this to be the case. However, when we learn that certain foods or drinks can greatly benefit our chakras – or conversely, prohibit them from working properly by blocking or closing them – we can begin to use our meals or diets in a way to focus the positive energies of food on particular chakras which require some work or help.

Using Colors

Thankfully, nature has provided us with a relatively simple and logical technique when it comes to selecting foods which relate to particular chakras, and which contain special energies or frequencies that can assist in opening or healing your body’s energy centers Because our chakras each have an energy both literally and symbolically represented by a color, it is very often the case that foods which have the same color can work harmoniously with that chakra. For example, green colored foods such as fresh leafy vegetables and certain green fruits or pulses are a great way of healing and opening your fourth chakra, that of the heart.

These foods vibrate at a consistent and similar frequency to that of your heart vortex, and the positive energies taken from digesting these foods will make their way into this energy center of your body, thus giving it a boost and allowing it to work as it should.

The Root Chakra

The Root Chakra, or Muladhara, is a particularly interesting and potent one when it comes to food, and very often problems associated with this chakra (lack of sense of place, ungroundedness, disconnection from the world around you, financial problems) can be effectively and quickly brought under control by changing your diet to root chakra-friendly foods. As this chakra pulses with a vivid red color, red foods are an ideal companion for it. These include red meats and other animal proteins, red fruits and berries (especially pomegranates and cranberries) and root vegetables such as beetroot and yam.

As this chakra is associated with the earth, and a sense of being grounded and at one with the earth we inhabit, foods which also have a symbiotic relationship with soil and earth are fantastic for cleansing and boosting this chakra’s potency. Possibly the finest example of these would be edible and medicinal mushrooms – a food which is not only packed with protein, but also comes from a food group which literally holds the soil together, nourishing it and sprouting from it at once.

Foods to Avoid

However, many foods and drinks are not only unhealthy for the body and mind physically, but also can unbalance the chakras and cause energy leakages and blockages. Any foods or drinks which encourage addictive behavior are particularly harmful for the sacral or second chakra, which when blocked can result in gluttonous or addictive habits. High fat foods, foods with a high salt or MSG content (a popular flavor enhancer which is mildly addictive and present in many processed foods) or foods and drinks containing caffeine or other stimulants are often the cause of problems with all the chakras.

Eating healthily, with a balanced diet based on raw and unprocessed foods is not only fantastic for many aspects of your physical body, but can also really assist with the development of your spiritual life via your chakras. By locating which chakra you are having problems with, it is relatively easy to find out which foods (by color or association) you can focus your diet upon in order to return balance and harmony to your body, mind and spirit.
